Seventeen Years of Truth: A Year-End Reflection on Science-Based Medicine
We close the year. We raise a light. We keep watch.
A Year to Mark
This will be my last post of the year. I look back. I measure. We have completed 17 years as a blog. That is something in itself. It is not vanity to count years. It is record. It is proof that steady work matters.
Thank You to the Contributors
We owe thanks. David Gorski leads by example. He is steady and fearless. He writes with knowledge and clarity. He speaks for patients and for science. He and the regular contributors toil without pay. They write for the work itself. They write for truth. Their reward is fulfillment. That is small and it is large.
Why This Work Matters
Misinformation costs lives. Bad medicine costs health and time. Science-based medicine fights that drift. It insists on data. It insists on trials. It insists on reason. It is not glamorous. It is necessary.
The blog’s role is plain. We translate complex studies into clear judgment. We show what the evidence says. We explain risk. We unmask false hope. We defend honest medicine.
Achievements and Hard Lessons
We have had wins. We have exposed poor claims. We have supported better care. We have nudged public debate. Those are small wins against larger tides.
We have also learned humility. Science is hard. It changes. We adapt. We correct. The dignity of the body demands we be careful and honest. That duty has a moral weight.
What to Expect Next Year
More of the same. More rigor. More reading, testing, and plain talk. We will keep calling for evidence. We will keep pointing out when evidence is thin.
We will also widen reach. We will bring more voices. We will train new writers. Truth needs more hands.
How You Can Help
- Read critically. Question claims.
- Look for trials and numbers, not only promises.
- Support independent science writing if you can.
- Share pieces that explain and hold to evidence.
If you respect this work, tell others. If you can donate time or money to reliable sources, do it. Charity begins with stewardship. Stewardship includes the mind.
A Final Word
Seventeen years is a mark. We will keep our course. We will keep the light. We will keep the work.
Thank you. To the contributors. To the readers. To reason.
